Thoran is a dish famous amongst Malayalees. It is a side dish served with rice. Thoran can be made from various vegetables such as beans, cabbage, carrot, suran etc. Here is a recipe of thoran prepared from padval.

    Cooking Method

    1. Grind the scraped coconut with chilly powder, turmeric powder, jeera and garlic coarsely. Keep the coconut paste aside.
    2. In a frying pan pour coconut oil, put urad dal, red chilly and mustard seeds when the oil is hot. When mustard splutters put curry leaves and the snake gourd (padval) and onion. Pour ½ cup water, close the pan and allow it to cook. Add salt when the padval is cooked.
    3. Now add the powdered rice and the ground coconut paste mentioned above.
    4. Fry the thoran till it is dry. Garnish with curry leaves and serve as a side dish with rice. Recipes for lunch
