- Bottle gourd (dudhi) 1/2 kg
- Moong dal 100 gms
- Grated coconut 1/2 cup
- Cumin seeds 1 tsp
- Green chilly 2 + 1
- Turmeric powder 1 /2 tsp
- Salt
- Oil 3 tbsp
- Red chilly 3
- Urad dal 1 tsp
- Mustard 1 tsp
- Few curry leaves
Seasoning:
Method:
- Remove the skin of the bottle gourd and cut into small pieces. Cook the bottle gourd in little water. Add turmeric powder, salt and 1 green chilly.
- Pressure cook the dal. Once cooked add it to the bottle gourd, mix well and cook on medium flame for another few minutes.
- Grind the coconut, 2 green chillies and jeera into a fine paste with little water. Add few curry leaves and grind again for 2 seconds.
- Add this coconut paste to the bottle gourd and dal mix, stir well and cook in low flame for sometime. When it starts to boil, switch off the gas.
- For seasoning, heat oil in a pan. Add urad dal, red chilly and mustard. When the mustard starts to splutter add curry leaves and switch off.
- Pour the seasoning into the curry and serve it hot.
This curry can be a side dish for chapatis as well as rice.
